Description
The HexSizer Heavy Hex Gauge in stainless steel. Size the nut from one flat with the stud still in the way, then flip it over and read the thread pitch.
Before you send a helper back to the gang box for a socket, hold this against the nut. It tells you the nut size and the stud size in one look, so the right socket comes up the first time.
What's on it
- Front, Heavy Hex Inch: nuts from 1-1/16" to 4-5/8", with the matching stud size for each, from 5/8" to 3".
- Back, thread pitch: Imperial Heavy Hex threads per inch, 4, 4.5, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16 and 18. Hold it against the threads and match the row of arrows.
It measures from one flat of the nut, not across the flats, so you can size a nut that's still on the stud. It only shows the standard sizes, so the answer matches what's in the socket set.
Why stainless
The marks are etched into the steel and then filled, so they stay easy to read and don't wear off in a tool bag. Stainless shrugs off the grease, solvent and weather that a bolting job puts it through.

Frequently asked questions
Can I measure a nut that's still on the stud?
Yes. That's what it's for. It measures from one flat, so the stud doesn't get in the way.
How much heat can it take?
Stainless steel starts to discolor at about 430°F and melts at about 2550°F.
Does it do metric?
This one is Heavy Hex Inch on the front. For inch and metric on one gauge, get the Wallet Heavy Hex Gauge.
