Description

The HexSizer WrenchSizer™ in stainless steel tells you which wrench or socket fits a nut before you start digging through the toolbox. Drop a loose nut into the "V" and read where the corners land, or hold it against one flat of a nut that's still on the car and read the size off the edge. Imperial is on one side, from 5/32" to 1-1/2". Metric is on the other, from 4 mm to 32 mm. It's credit-card size, so it rides in your wallet.

Stop grabbing three sockets to find the one that fits.

Two ways to find your wrench size

Loose nuts: use the "V." Nest the nut into the V slot and look at where the farthest corners line up. The WrenchSizer takes that corner-to-corner distance and matches it to the across-the-flats size, which is the wrench or socket size you need. If the corners land between two lines, use the larger size.

Installed nuts: measure from one flat. When the nut is still on the bolt, set the corner of the nut at the "0" tick line on the edge scale and read where the end of the flat lands. You don't need to get around the whole nut, so it works in tight spots. The photos show it on the brake manifold of my Ford truck, where there isn't much room to work. If the flat ends between two tick lines, use the larger size. For example, if it's between 11/16" and 3/4", grab the 3/4".

Who uses it: DIYers, technicians and shophands working on cars, trucks, lawnmowers, small engines and bicycles, in the garage, the shop or the driveway.

Stainless steel. The markings are laser engraved into the steel, so they won't rub off riding in your pocket.

In the package: one stainless steel WrenchSizer™, a vinyl protective sleeve, and a printed instruction card, packed in a clear vinyl pouch.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out what size socket fits a nut?

If the nut is loose, drop it into the "V" on the WrenchSizer and read where the farthest corners line up. If it's still on the bolt, set the corner of the nut at the "0" line on the edge scale and read where the flat ends. Either way, the number you read is your wrench or socket size.

What if the nut lands between two lines?

Go with the larger size. Nuts are made at or under their listed size, never over, so a nut that's past the smaller line is the bigger size. This is the same rule as on the HexSizer.

Why doesn't my tape measure or caliper give me the socket size?

A nut's listed size is nominal. Real nuts come in a little under it, so a caliper reads a few thousandths small and leaves you guessing which size you're looking at. The WrenchSizer only marks the sizes wrenches and sockets actually come in, so you read the tool size, not a decimal.

Does it do metric and SAE?

Yes. Imperial (SAE) is on one side and metric is on the other.

Can I measure a nut that's still on the car?

Yes. Use the edge scale and measure from one flat. You don't need to reach around the nut, so it works in tight spots like that brake manifold.

Will it fit in my wallet?

Yes. It's 3.37" x 2.125", the size of a credit card, and about 0.02" thick, and it comes in a vinyl protective sleeve.

Is there one for my toolbox?

Yes. The WrenchSizer "V" also comes as a toolbox magnet, in a large 4" x 3" and a small 3-1/2" x 2". Stick one on the toolbox and keep the stainless one in your wallet.

Can I get it with my shop's logo?

Yes. See the Custom WrenchSizer for giveaways and promotions.
