Description
Six SAE tools that ride in your back pocket: size the nut, find the wrench, read the thread pitch, and look it all up on the chart. Inch and metric, each tool in its own sleeve of a six-pocket vinyl organizer.
These are the SAE Pocket Cards from my book, The Bolting Field Technician's Pocket Reference. The book prints the tools on paper at actual size so you can use them right off the page. These are the real ones, made to carry.
What's in the set
- SAE HexSizer, anodized aluminum, laser engraved. Inch on one side, metric on the other. It sizes a nut from one flat, even when the nut is still on the bolt, and the half circles measure the bolt. More on the SAE HexSizer
- SAE & Common Sizes chart, inch and metric. Bolt size, wrench size and thread pitch on one card. The inch side runs from #0 machine screws up to 1-1/8" bolts, with coarse (UNC) and fine (UNF) threads per inch.
- Stainless WrenchSizer. Drop a loose nut into the "V" and read the wrench size where the corners land. 5/32" to 1-1/2" on one side, 4 mm to 32 mm on the other. More on the Stainless WrenchSizer
- Clear Card Thread Checker, inch. Reads 7 to 32 threads per inch.
- Clear Card Thread Checker, metric. Reads 2.5 mm down to 0.5 mm pitch.
- Fresnel magnifier. A flat magnifier for reading small marks in bad light.
Everything sits in the six-sleeve vinyl organizer and ships in a clear vinyl pouch.
How the tools work together
Size the nut with the HexSizer or the WrenchSizer and you know which wrench or socket to grab. Read the pitch with a clear card, either held against the threads or over a pencil rubbing, and the chart tells you the bolt. Take the cards to the hardware store and you won't come home with the wrong bolt.
Who it's for
Technicians, DIYers and shophands working on cars, lawnmowers, engines and bicycles in the garage, the shop or the driveway.
Working on big studs and flanges instead? See the Heavy Hex Pocket Cards.
